We'll try to list a number of possible questions and answers here, mostly aimed at curious visitors and newbies.

Getting started

I've been here for five minutes and I still don't know what NotD is...

Find out about NotD in the Map details section. You'll also learn how to connect to the server and be able to download the map itself.

Why would I want to play this?

NotD is a well-developed custom map that offers a challenge which only teamwork can overcome. Whether you are looking for a complex game or just something to play with friends - you've found it ;). If you would rather play something solo, you better look elsewhere.

So this is like S3 Marine Survival or Dawn of the Dead... right?

In that you control a marine and fire with a gun: yes. In all other aspects: no. DotD was created after NotD and copied many parts of the map, yet it has different terrain and - at least to us - much less appealing gameplay. S3 Marine Survival is a nice map, but it's even more different.

I'm on the server but I don't see any hosted NotD games. Why?

It's probably a good idea to join our Clan channel. Sooner or later you'll see players there - or you could just host it yourself. In any case, place the map in your Warcraft III Maps\Download folder so the game can find it, not all game hosts have the patience to wait for players to download.

Saving and loading

When the game starts, some people type "-load" followed by a code. What's it for?

These players have stored their experience and medals with the "-save" command. To retrieve your progress in the game, the "-load xxxxxx-xxxxxx" command is required.

How and when should I save/load ?

Enter "-save" after you died and the game will display a code. Write it down if you want to load next game. Please keep in mind that you can save only once in the same game! You can load during the entire game if you didn't do so before, but you can only try to load three times when your code was incorrect. Use the "-code" command after saving to make the game display your code again, in case it had disappeared.

Why can't I save or load ?

There must be at least 3 players starting the game in order to load/save. You cannot use someone else's code.

Why should I save or load?

You probably want to save in order to keep your progress in experience points and medals. Ranks and medals give you small passive bonuses such as increased HP, increased damage and mana. A team of players with all medals and high ranks has a significant advantage over a team of players who didn't load. For more details, check ranks and medals in Map details.

What happens if I click my medals in-game ?

Well, don't. They aren't supposed to do anything. If you click them they tend to cause bugs to your marine, like the move bug.

Miscellaneous

It's boring, I always die on wave 2. This map sucks.

Perhaps you really don't like the map, perhaps you do but you're sick and tired of dieing early. In the latter case, read up on basic class info and good practice hints - then try to join a few NotD games and learn. Don't expect to even survive more than a few waves in your first games. Learning how to play takes time. The best thing you can do is to follow up on suggestions given by experienced players - they are meant to help you and the team, not to annoy you. Usually ;).

Help ! My marine can't move !

This is the well-known "move bug", which usually occurs when satchels are used. Be ready for it at any time! To resolve it you can:

• - Click another unit and then reselect your marine
• - Press Ctrl+1 once at the start of the game while only your marine is selected to assign your marine to a 'group', then just press 1 a few times when it is stuck.

Can I revive after I died ?

No, but you may be able to use so-called MIAs: mini-marines that spawn for all dead players at waves 9, 11 and 12. You can even gain XP with them. Apart from that you're free to stay and watch or to leave - don't forget to save. Expect to be kicked if you start to annoy the players that are still alive.

Some teammate blew me up... Game over ?

Not necessarily, if you were killed unfairly you can ask the host of the game to revive you. The host can only revive you if you were killed by a teammate. To do this as a host type: "XX is a tk", where XX is the relative number (as shown in the game lobby before starting the game!) assigned to the marine-killer. For example if the fifth (yellow) marine kills a teammate, you can revive the killed marine by typing "05 is a tk", and the fifth marine will be punished by death while everyone he killed will revive. You can't be revived if you got killed by a nuclear blast or during wave 15. Be careful to only revive players when their body is safe - meaning not currently swamped by zombies and an abomination or two.

Can I kick annoying people during the game ?

Yes, the host can type "-kick XX" where XX is the marine number. Kicking is a pretty serious action to take and should not be used lightly. Check our code of conduct for more information.
